My Birds; Whether it's chicks, started or adult birds, I do everything in my power to raise healthy, happy birds. I participate in the NPIP, I vaccinate ALL my chicks for Mareks. They are fed a balanced diet to ensure proper growth. They have plenty of grow space and CLEAN living conditions. I also worm, dust and trim beaks and toe nails on a regular basis. Once a birds leaves my property, I am no longer responsible for it's well being. As the buyer it is your responsiblity to take proper care of your bird it's health, and well being. I do not replace birds nor do I refund money for lost birds. Shipping can be very hard on birds, some do just fine others do not, be realistic about the risks before buying birds from anyone.
Buying Hatching Eggs; Hatching eggs can be such a touchy subject for some. And boy what a crap shoot it can be sometimes. Please be realistic about the risks when buying hatching eggs. Their are so many risks and variables involved it's almost impossible to list them all. It really comes down to luck. If the seller packages your eggs well, and the post office doesn't use your box for soccer practice then your eggs should arrive just fine. Many times "arriving fine" is NOT the case. Many times I believe it falls right in the lap of the P.O. They don't care about the eggs.....really, they handle so many packages, it's really impossible. It's not the carriers as much as it is the sorters and loaders. They don't care if it's fragile and the certainly don't care it's "fertile hatching eggs", they toss them and stack them regardless. So expect the worst and hope for the best when buying hatching eggs from anyone. I speak from personal experience on this. I have had wonderful hatches, sometimes 90%, which is almost unheard of, I have also had 0...zip not one develop, those were usually the ones I spend a small fortune on:) Which brings me to a quote from a good friend of mine "Don't spend more then you are willing to lose" That about wraps it up really. With all that said, I do not replace eggs or refund money for shipped eggs. You assume all risks once eggs are in transit. *No Refunds for eggs, unless I cannot fill your order, absolultley NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Shipping Birds; 9 times out of 10 shipped birds do just fine. Sometimes they don't. Stress is the main factor in shipping. This is a risk when shipping any kind of animal. It's just plain hard on them. I have even had goats get sick just from riding in the back of a pickup for a few hours to my house, so it happens with other animals too. When I ship, they are prepped before shipping with vitamins and electrolytes in the water for 24 hours, I will also boost their protein levels at that time, many times with hard boiled eggs, just to give them a little boost for the ride. They will be healthy, clean and parasite free when they leave my farm. I always use the Horizon boxes that are USPS approved for birds, fresh shavings, and fresh fruit for the ride. Most of the time things go just fine, but please be aware of the risks when shipping. I am not responsible for lost or stressed birds, those are risks you assume when birds are shipped.
Breeding and Culling: I thought I would throw this one on this page too. I really find it important to discuss the realities of breeding birds. I don't care what "line" you are using, things can pop up. No line is perfect. I have bred from several different lines over the past 4 years and found inconsistencies in everyone, especially when you out cross into another line. You could possibly be opening up a HUGE can of worms. It takes a long time and a lot of work to get where you "know" what to expect from "your" line. When putting two birds together, sometimes that cross or union does not work, maybe they will throw you a few 4 toes, or a twisted beak or bad wings. You have to figure out what works and what doesn't. A good breeder keeps good records and knows what bird is throwing what. It's your job as a breeder to figure it out and know how to fix it. And no, it's not pushing your problem bird off on someone else on Eggbid. Talk is cheap, if you have an issue with a bird then fix it, don't trash someone because you have a issue with a breeder. Conscience breeders take responsibility for their breedings and not blame someone else for breeding issues. I feel very strongly about this. You will not see me trashing anyone's name, it's not my style! I would rather spend my time improving the breed, then gossiping and trashing others........no thanks:) I will tell you I do LOVE the HatTrick line of birds. The results I am getting from my breeders is excellent.
